Mark snagged True Fan Pricing™ tickets to a playoff game against the Clippers and got to witness Kyrie, Luka, and the boys do their thing first-hand.

We sat down with him in this exclusive Super Fan Spotlight to get the story behind his fandom.

What classifies you as a Mavs Superfan?

I just love them. From crying at my first game as a kid in the early 2000’s after a T-Mac led Rockets comeback W to all the heartbreak in the years that followed to then watching Dirk put the whole city on his back in 2011 and now to the Luka era, they have always been one of the things that has brought me the most joy.

It’s pretty rare that I miss a game on TV, I constantly consume any Mavs related media and love to think about the next game or series or roster construction. I guess the reason being is there is not much in life I find more euphoric than a Luka buzzer beater or signature Mavs win, especially if you’re one of the 20K fans at the AAC. It makes you feel so alive, like your apart of something much bigger than yourself.

What's your favorite moment as a fan?

Seeing Dirk win it in ‘11. All the years of heartbreak that he and the city went through together and getting revenge for the ‘06 Finals just made it that much sweeter.

How was your experience snagging tickets and attending the game?

First I just want to say that I love this app. I find it to be such a unique and innovative idea for modern fandom. I was absolutely ecstatic when I saw the notification pop up on my phone that I had won. We hung out outside the stadium for an hour or so before the game and you could feel the atmosphere building up.

The tickets were great. My friend and I definitely got a little rowdy watching the Mavs finally take down the Clippers and may have celebrated with a couple Whataburger taquitos on the way home.

What's the best game you've ever attended for your team?

November 1, 2023. The greatest day of my life.

One of my friends had the foresight to buy face value World Series tickets through the Diamondbacks before the NLCS was even over because he thought that’s who the Rangers would be matching up with. After the Rangers won game 4 and took a 3-1 series lead he called me and told me if there was any way I could get to Phoenix, his extra ticket to Game 5 was mine. My mom works for Southwest Airlines and I was able to use a stand-by pass on a flight to Phoenix. Every flight that day was booked and my chances of actually getting on the plane were low, but 3 people missed the 7AM flight and I got a spot.

I grew up playing baseball, it was my first true love. Much like the Mavs, the Rangers were such a formative part of my childhood and early adolescence. The heartbreak experienced as a Rangers fan was just as real as the pre-2011 Mavs except up to that point there was no championship banner flying. Of the 160 some odd passengers on that flight I’d say about 95% of them donned Rangers attire. Talking with everyone while boarding, there was a sense of cautious optimism that today was the day. The day that many had waited a lifetime for and many never lived to see.

When I walked into Chase Field, I noticed a familiar face walking in not too far behind me: Rangers PA announcer Chuck Morgan - the best damn PA announcer in the business. Chuck IS Rangers baseball, not only a voice that brings you so many good ballpark memories but also just a great person. As he walked by I gave him a fist bump and I’m sure said something along the lines of “let’s go chuck, today’s the day”. Instead of fist bumping and continuing to his seats, he stopped and talked to me for a second. That meant a lot to me.

The atmosphere was unreal, as the game led on, it was scoreless until the 7th inning. The atmosphere under the Arizona night sky was tense, just waiting for someone to bust the door open. Mitch Garver got the Rangers on the board but it was still too early to get overly excited. The bullpen survived the 8th inning and then the floodgates opened in the ninth as the Rangers scored 4 runs capped off by a Marcus Semien exclamation point home run. Deep down I knew…but after 2011, nothing was over until it was over.

When Josh Sborz got the final out and proceeded to spike his glove as the celebration ensued I was in shock. A loud scream of overwhelming joy, followed by silence and memories of baseball heartbreak during my childhood flooded in and the realization that the one sports thing I wanted the most to see in my lifetime had just happened. And I was there. I really wasn’t even supposed to be there, and some could say they weren’t supposed to be either. But they did it. We did it.

What's the craziest thing you've ever done as a fan?

Game 4 of the 2022 Western Conference Semifinals. The Mavs were down 2-1 and Scott Foster was set to referee that night. I want to say up to that point Chris Paul was like 0-13 in his playoff career with Foster as a ref. I went to Play It Again Sports and bought a referee shirt/whistle and put “Foster” on the back of it. Chris Paul fouled out at the very beginning of the 4th quarter and the Mavs won. It was awesome.

What's the most memorable fan item you've ever spent money on?

Kind of random considering I’m a Cowboys fan (that didn’t come until I got older) but growing up I had a Priest Holmes Chiefs Jersey and a TJ Houshmanzadeh Bengals jersey… I wore them everywhere.
