Julia Nannery - New York, NY
Julia is a die-hard New York sports fan, even to the point of emailing us and ensuring that we had every Knicks podcast she knew in the app. This led Julia to becoming one of the first Community Curators in the app. If you’re interested in taking more ownership of and helping define the Autograph Knicks Community, send us a message at support@ag.fan.
As we gear up for the playoffs, we sat down with her for this exclusive Super Fan Spotlight to get the story behind her fandom.
What classifies you as a Knicks Superfan?
I would classify myself as a Super Fan of the Knicks because New York breeds community. It’s so easy to want to be a part of it by repping our world class teams. The Knicks are so engaging with fans and have a familial energy. You just find yourself wanting to know everything about them; their stats, records, teammate relationships, etc. It helps having a family of Knicks fans- our favorite bonding time is watching the games.
What's your favorite moment as a fan?
The most recent moment I can remember is in March against the Pistons, Divincenzo broke the Knicks franchise record for most 3pts made in a game. I live with my 2 younger siblings and my best friend and boyfriend comes over for every game. I come home from work everyday and we’re immediately talking about the game. The Pistons put up a great fight. Donte was on an unreal heater making 3 after 3 and we were just screaming, it was so fun to watch. He was a maniac that game, and we couldn’t get enough. That’s definitely one of my favorite moments watching the game with my family. I’ve never been to a Knicks game though, so I’m sure when that happens it’ll top all of my living room memories!
What's the best game you've ever attended for your team?
I’m a huge NY Rangers fan and got the opportunity to go see them play a few games this season. Being at MSG is always an amazing experience. I was considering getting tickets for the Stadium Series game against the Islanders, but admittedly not wanting to sit in the cold for so long. I ended up getting tickets the day before the game- once in a lifetime experience kind of thing. So my boyfriend and I bundled up and off we went. Being at a football stadium filled with (mostly Rangers) fans was unreal. You couldn’t even feel the cold with all the excitement. Matt Rempe set the tone with his NHL debut. It was going great, until the game went on a down turn for us. But with the most epic comeback, we won in like 10 seconds of OT. The emotions were so intense and the roar of the stadium was something I’ll never forget. We had so much adrenaline on the way home. We were so amped up we couldn’t sleep!
What's the craziest thing you've ever done as a fan?
I wouldn’t say I’ve ever done anything super exciting as a fan. With a mundane 9-5 work schedule, the craziest thing I’ve probably ever done is call out of work after partying on a Tuesday night watching a game.
What's the most memorable fan item you've ever spent money on?
My personal favorite fan item that I own is a Panarin third jersey from this year. However the most memorable fan item I’ve ever bought is probably a Josh Hart jersey for my sister, who is definitely his #1 fan.
