After Chandler scored the 2020 Championship Team Signed Jersey in the app, we sat down with him to get the scoop on his Laker Fandom. Not only is he atop the Laker Leaderboard, he isn’t afraid to dye his hair purple either…
What classifies you as a Lakers Super Fan?
What classifies me as a super fan for the Lakers? I've been a Lakers fan since birth. I cheer for the Lakers without fail, watching every game, win or lose, whether I'm at home or streaming it on my phone when I'm out. I attend multiple games each season. I am always wearing something that represents the Lakers, from head-to-toe gear to more subtle items like socks or a hat. My obsession with the team affects my mood and even my week based on their performance. I am constantly looking for updates or news on the team. Autograph has definitely made that a lot easier. I'm a Lakers fan for life, and I wouldn't have it any other way!
What's your favorite moment as a Laker fan?
When I was growing up during the summer time, my family would go stay with my grandparents in LA and I loved watching the playoffs with my Grandpa. In 2010 I still remember very vividly watching all the games and thinking as a kid when the Celtics beat the Lakers at home in Game 2 that the series was over. My Grandpa told me that it's never over with Kobe and the Lakers. The Lakers ended up winning game 3 in Boston. Each game was intense and I loved every moment watching them. I still remember Ron Artest hitting the dagger 3 that led to the Lakers winning and Kobe getting his 5th ring. This was the moment I realized how much I truly loved being a Lakers Fan and that fandom went from being a fan because of family to an obsession that is hard to contain.
What's the best Laker game you've ever attended?
One of the best games I attended was in November 2021. I had the opportunity to save up and sit right behind the Lakers Bench at the Lakers Heat game. The experience was unforgettable. The Lakers hadn't been playing super well that season because of the whole Westbrook trade so my expectations weren't super high, but I was hopeful since it was a Finals rematch. The game was a pretty close game but the Heat started to pull away at the end of the 3rd and beginning of the 4th. We were down by 9 with about 4 minutes left and we ended up coming back - taking it to overtime and winning! The energy in the arena was palpable. The experience of being able to listen to the players and coaches talk on the bench and then having the game go to overtime and winning has been my favorite moment in person as a Laker Fan.
What's the craziest thing you've ever done as a fan?
Probably the craziest thing I have done as a fan is in preparation for the game I sat courtside. I bleached my hair and dyed the top purple. I have dark brown hair so going from that to bleach and purple was pretty intense especially since it lasted for several months after.
What's the most memorable fan item you've ever spent money on?
I'd say my throwback Blue and White Kobe Lakers jersey. Can never go wrong with a Kobe Jersey.
